PAPUA - In the heart of Indonesia’s eastern frontier, a meaningful encounter unfolded in Ambobera Village, Papua, where the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) continue to build more than just security they build trust, unity, and community. On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Ambobera Post of the RI-PNG Border Security Task Force (Mobile Infantry Battalion 732/Banau) held a warm and impactful Social Communication (Komsos) initiative with local residents.
Led personally by Second Lieutenant Lumban Gaol, the Ambobera Post Commander, the team visited homes and connected directly with families. This face-to-face interaction created an atmosphere of sincerity and camaraderie where soldiers didn’t just speak, but listened. Conversations covered topics ranging from national unity and environmental awareness to community aspirations and daily concerns.
“This is more than a routine operation. It’s about understanding the people we serve, ” said Second Lieutenant Lumban Gaol. “The TNI is not only here to secure the borders but also to stand side-by-side with the people, as partners in peace, growth, and well-being.”
The initiative was warmly received by the local community. Mama Yonas, one of the residents, expressed deep appreciation for the soldiers’ consistent presence and genuine concern.
“We feel safer and supported. The soldiers are not just protectors they are part of our lives now. We hope this bond stays strong for the future, ” she shared, visibly moved.
The effort also drew praise from Major General Lucky Avianto, Commander of the Habema Operational Command (Pangkoops Habema), who emphasized the strategic and human value of such initiatives.
“These grassroots communication efforts reflect the true spirit of the TNI: unity with the people. They’re essential not only for stability and security but also for building prosperity across the region. We will continue to encourage this model of synergy between soldiers and society, ” he affirmed.
The Komsos activity in Ambobera is a clear testament to the evolving role of TNI personnel not just as guardians of the nation’s borders, but as agents of connection, trust, and nation-building. In places where distance and geography often create divides, it is human touch and shared values that bridge the gap.
